The Salem chapter of NAWIC is proud to announce that Willamette Valley Construction Career Day 2015 will be on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 10 am to 2 pm.  This is a great local event that gives high school students a chance to see what working in the construction industry is really about, and gives local companies a chance to recruit youth for their programs.  Up to 600 students will be convening at the Salem Airport for the chance to cut glass, lay bricks, operate large equipment, and many other activities.  There will also be informational tables featuring local companies and training programs.  The event is open to all high schools in Marion, Polk, Clackamas, Linn, and Lane counties.

The construction industry is facing a critical shortage of young workers. By 2017 it is expected that the shortage will be over two million people. According to the Construction Labor Market Analyzer Report, one-sixth of construction workers will retire over the course of the next decade.

Businesses are encouraged to participate through sponsoring the event or being an exhibitor. There is no cost to be an exhibitor. Exhibitors will get a chance to interact with students and demonstrate what it takes to work in the industry. Hands-on activities are encouraged to help the students gain experience, training, and knowledge of potential career opportunities.

Exhibitor, sponsorship, and school registration forms can be found on our Construction Career Day page.  Follow the event on Facebook and Twitter.

I have a grant to take some women from Corvallis School District high Schools. I want to be on your email list for any updates. Let me know how many students I can bring!
